What will you be doing in this role?

Performs specialized health information activities vital to organize, maintain and use electronic and paper patient health records. Depending on are assignments, may specialize one or more clerical functions, such as coding clerical support, transcription processing and interface, coordination of record request, image scanning quality auditing, or serve as the satellite rep in off-campus locations. Analyze/research errors. Participate in quality reviews. Compile and trend data and generate reports. Queries multiple electronic records and tracking systems. Understands chart organization and content, CSMC and external requirements related to chart documentation and privacy. Also, performs as a backup for prepping and scanning records as needed, to meet department goals. This Heath Information Tech I will be working onsite in Pasadena and will focus on:

  • Reviewing physicians' (and other medical professional's) documentation created as part of patient care for completeness and content.
  • Identifying physician responsible for deficiencies, understands internal and external standards for documentation requirements with regard to timeliness and content.
  • Querying multiple documentation sources/systems in search of documents, records findings in electronic tracking system.
  • Resolving documentation discrepancies to ensure accurate physician attribution.
  • Performing deficiency monitoring by reviewing system generated queues or work lists.

Requirements:

  • High School or GED diploma required. AA degree preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a health care setting required. Experience working with electronic medical records preferred
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
  • RHIT or another related credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Intermediate keyboard and PC Skills, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.

Skills/Experience Sought:

  • Detailed knowledge of medical record content and chart organization
  • Attention to detail, and problem solving.
