The CRNA functions as the assistant to the operating surgeon during the operative! procedure, as well as providing comprehensive nursing management of care during the perioperative phase.
Duties include but not limited to:
1.

Provides perioperative patient assessment and teaching.

Performs positioning, prepping and draping the patient
3.
-
Provides hemostatsis by clamping blood vessels, coagulation bleeding pints, ligating vessels and
by other means as directed by the surgeon.
4.

Performs wound closure as directed by the surgeon, sutures tissue and skin
5.

Performs postoperative patient evaluation teaching.

Coordinates the OR schedule for the practice
7.

Demonstrates flexibility to work with all surgeons, serves as liaison between operating surgeons and OR for special needs cases (i.e., equipment, new procedures, etc.)

Qualifications
Qualifications

Must demonstrate a high degree of interpersonal skill with co-workers, physicians and patients.
·

Proficiency in perioperative nursing practice both as a scrub nurse and circulating nurse.
·

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.
·

Demonstrated knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to procedures wherein the CRNFA assists.
·

Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate corrective action.
·
Knowledge of accepted nursing standards, pharmacology, and basic! computer skills.
·

Skill in providing patient care in accordance with all laws, regulations, facility standards, policies and procedures as it relates to the CRNFA role.

Graduation from approved school of nursing.
·

Completion of RN First Assistant education program that is associated with a school of nursing at a university or college that is accredited by an agency that is recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and meets -AORN standards for RN First Assistant Education Program.

Minimum of 3-5 years
diversified perioperative nursing experience; both scrubbing and circulating.

Current state RN license required.
·

Current CNOR (Certified Nurse in the OR).
·

CRNFA or eligible
·
-
CPR certified
