The Department of Anesthesiology and the Department of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center are seeking to recruit an esta! blished clinician/investigator who is an active clinician with a career interest in research the care of the injured patient. We plan to recruit a board-certified anesthesiologist with a strong record of funded research into cellular/molecular mechanisms of the human injury response and/or the pharmacologic amelioration of injury consequences. The successful candidate will have an interest in the broad fields of trauma, inflammation and/or immunology. Specific examples of research that would be desirable include; trauma and transplantation immunology, sepsis, traumatic inflammation, the neuroendocrine response to injury, and neurological consequences of injury including pain.
This is a new, full-time position that will be supported by the Departments of Anesthesiology and Surgery and by The Geisel School of Medicine as we seek to expand our current research activity in the areas of perioperative care, critical care, and pain medicine. The objective of this new recr! uitment is to create a highly visible and successful research ! program that will study the physiologic underpinnings of the human injury response and identify new mechanisms for improved outcomes of the injured patient. We plan to recruit a physician-researcher (MD or MD, PhD) with both an active clinical presence in a related field and a funded research program in an area of interest. We expect that ongoing clinical involvement of the researcher will support a translational approach to research. In addition, it is particularly important that the researcher will have a strong interest in teaching and mentoring junior faculty.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center and the largest provider of surgical services in New Hampshire. The Medical Center was built in 1991 as an integrated facility that includes the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, the Borwell Research Building and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. The hospital is a regional referral hospital for all of Northern New England and is contiguous with ! the state-of-the-art Borwell Research facility. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center is located in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire, an idyllic area of Northern New England where a wide variety of cultural, academic, and recreational activities are readily available. Academic title and compensation will be consistent with experience and Medical Center policies. Applicants must be board certified in anesthesiology and eligible for licensure in New Hampshire.
