Position:
Anesthesia Tech/Operating Room Aide
Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services and with the cooperation of the Chief of Anesthesia, this position is responsible to maintain anesthesia supplies and stock, meet with anesthesia vendors, and assist with room cleaning and turn-over to promote efficient running of the Operating Room schedule. This position ensures the same standard for the
OB
department, and other areas where anesthesia is administered, to accommodate the smooth and efficient management of their schedule and to provide a universal standard of care. Included in the auspice of this role is the assisting with OR room turnover between procedures, OR terminal cleaning, assisting in moving and positioning of patients under the guidance of the RN for surgical procedures, assisting with the surgical prep process under the direction of the RN.
In addition to the anesthesia tech role, this position is responsible to cover when necessary, the ! Operating Room Schedulers job role and functions(21-28).
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Changes anesthesia circuits, suction tubing, and canisters between cases.
Sets up IVâs in ACU for the days needs â" especially the 7:30 AM starts.
Cleans anesthesia machines and keeps them properly stocked.
Cleans and stocks all anesthesia equipment carts.
Attends courses offered by the manufacturer of the anesthesia equipment to be versed and competent in the care and routine maintenance of the machines.
Conducts routine quality assurance activities such as: checking all inventories for outdated or damaged products.
Ensures that all preparations are made to meet demand of next dayâs schedule and that staff are supplied with daily needs for cases.
Maintains infusion pump inventory.
Learns, and attains expertise and proficiency, to set up anesthesia equipment for special cases. (A-line, Epidural, etc.)
Obtains supplies and! equipment for special cases and special needs of anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist.
Orders anesthesia supplies using the SMART system.
Works in conjunction with the Department Director and Supply Technician to order new supplies/equipment or increase PAR levels.
Provides all above services to all areas where anesthesia is administered including, but not limited to; OB, Radiology (MRI), and other areas as they are added.
Provides daily cleaning of the OR including the appropriate handling of all trash, regulated medical waste, and soiled linens within the department.
Helps gather and connect necessary equipment â" video monitors, microscopes etc. â" for the scheduled procedure.
Works as an effective member of the Surgical Services Team. Communicates effectively with staff, peers, physicians, director, clinical coordinator and external and internal customers.
Requires moderate supervision.

Individual must show initiative and or! ganizational ability.
Assists in care of the surgical patient, under the direct supervision of the RN, and/or physician, CRNA, by holding limbs or supporting the patient during surgical prep or anesthesia procedures (epidural, spinal) and with positioning and moving of patients
Schedules surgical procedures with physician or physicianâs office designee on a daily basis
Monitors and audits schedule for the next day on a daily basis
Enters into OR computer system appropriate charges on Billing Screen in OR module within 24 hours of date of service
Collects and audits departmental documentation for preparation of patient charges. Provides same to auditing department
Reports to Department Director or designee, any problems associated with scheduling, documentation, and/or changes
Sorts, files, batches all charge documents with less than five (5) identified errors per month
Enters patient data/charges, rev! iews and verifies batches for accuracy before
Enters daily and maintains
time worked for the Surgical Service department personnel
through KRONOS
Qualifications
Reports to:

Required:
High School Graduate or Equivalent. BLS. Basic knowledge of infection control and aseptic technique is necessary.
Preferred:
Specific anesthesia tech training. Knowledge of inventory control and hospital-related service.
