The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will provide quality anesthesia service for the hospital; maintain proper equipment, supplies and agents to assure a safe, efficient delivery of care; and interface with other hospital departments for purposes of continuing education, quality assurance and budget management.

ACCOUNTABILITY The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is accountable to first the Medical Director of Anesthesiology Department and second to the Chief Executive Officer.

INTERRELATIONSHIPS Works closely with medical staff, clinical staff, and support staff of Weeks Medical Center. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing. Current NH license as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate from nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the ANNA Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program or its predecessor. Current NH license as a ARNP.
  • Successfully complete the certification examination administered by the AANA Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or its predecessor.
  • Comply with biennial recertification as defined by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Current PALS, BLS and ACLS certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Pre-anesthetic evaluation of the patient, to include obtaining an informed consent for general, regional, intravenous sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care. 2. Anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence, to include the selection, application, and administration of anesthetics, fluids, and adjuvant drugs as may be necessary to manage the anesthetic, maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis, and correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. 3. Selects, applies or inserts appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for the anesthesia or surgery. 4. Manages emergence and recovery from anesthesia. 5. Releases or discharges patients from a post-anesthetic care area, and provides post-anesthesia follow-up care related to anesthesia side effects or complications. 6. Orders, initiates, or modifies pain relief therapy. 7. Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs or fluids, or by using basic or advanced life support techniques. 8. Provide call coverage according to the monthly anesthesia call schedule. 9. Remain within 30 minutes of Weeks Medical Center when on call
